e-learning Registration 2010-2011

Registration is now open for e-learning (on-line) courses for the 2010-2011 school year.  Students can register at www.tdsb.on.ca/elearning.  Don’t forget to bring in your signed permission form to your guidance counsellor.

ECO Canada Scholarship

The deadline for ECO Canada’s scholarship applications has been extended to June 15th, 2010.

Four $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to Canadian high school students entering into their first year of post-secondary education. The top applicant will also earn the Edit Petrovic Memorial Scholarship, receiving an additional $2,500.

Scholarships will be awarded to students who:

  • Submit a short environmental essay (400 words) about their values, leadership and vision
  • Provide a reference letter on their involvement in the community regarding environmental issues
  • Have been accepted into an environmental program at a Canadian post-secondary institution
  • Are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

Valedictorian Voting 2010

Ontario Universities’ Admission Information Service

The Ontario Universities’ Admission Information Service is available to students from June 3 to August 27, 2010.

Qualified Ontario secondary school students applying for admission to an Ontario university who do not receive an offer of admission can inquire about possible openings at other Ontario universities through the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC).

To be considered for admission, applicants must have completed their Ontario Secondary School Diploma including six 4U/M courses by early September 2010.  An average of at least 60% is needed, although higher averages are normally required.

Information can be found on the OUAC website at www.ouac.on.ca or by calling 519-823-1940, extension 10.   Calls may be made between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Monday – Wednesday, and Friday or from 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Students can see their guidance counsellor if they have additional questions.

TDSB Virtual Summer School

Registration for TDSB Virtual Summer School has started.  Information can be found at www.tdsb.on.ca/students/secondary/programs .

Students are reminded to bring in their acknowledgement form signed by a parent/guardian so that they may be approved to take the course by their guidance counsellor.

Kiwanis Club of Toronto Scholarship Program

The Kiwanis Club of Toronto Foundation is pleased to announce that a Scholarship Program is again available.  Applicants must be entering any year of their post-secondary education and must be under 24 years of age as of January 1, 2010.  Applications may be downloaded from www.torontokiwanis.ca .  The deadline for applications is Monday May 17, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.

Abercrombie Scholarship

The Abercrombie Scholarship is available to two students from each secondary school in the former city of Etobicoke. 

Candidates must:

  • Be completing their final year in a secondary school in the City of Etobicoke.
  • Enrol in a Canadian university and the scholarship must be applied to tuition fees.
  • Possess a well-rounded personality.
  • Have a proven scholastic ability in a variety of subjects.
  • Demonstrate leadership potential as evidenced by their contribution to school and/or community programs.
  • Show good moral character in public or community affairs.
  • Demonstrate a fondness for and/or success in athletic activities.

 The award is worth an amount no less than $1000 and will be paid directly to the university on behalf of the students.

Mon Sheong Foundation Silver Jubilee Awards of Excellence

The Silver Jubilee Award of Excellence for graduating students based on academic standing, community involvement, leadership, and sportsmanship.  The school may submit a maximum of two nominations.  This is a Mon Sheong Foundation award sponsored by the HSBC Bank Canada.  Applications are in the ‘scholarship drawer’ in Student Services or can be found on-line at www.monsheong.org .  The deadline is July 12, 2010.

Portuguese Association of York University Merit Award

The Portuguese Association at York University offers a merit award for students entering York University in the fall of 2010.  Secondary students are eligible if they are a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant of Portuguese descent/descendent of a former Portuguese colony or an international student of Portuguese origin.  They must be planning to attend York University in the fall of 2010 and have a minimum average of 75%  The must also have volunteered in at least 3 extra-curricular activities while in secondary school (each year counts as a separate volunteer example).  The deadline for applications is May 12, 2010.  The award is worth $1000.  Applications are available in the ’scholarship drawer’ in Student Services.
